Same-day dentistry allows patients to finish treatment during a single office visit. Traditional dental procedures can take weeks or months to complete. But with modern techniques and equipment, dentists can sometimes shorten this timeline.
Same-day dentistry is available at Oak Tree Dental in Poway and the surrounding area. Our team offers a wide range of treatments and procedures. We help patients avoid the trouble and expense associated with lengthy dental procedures. Call us at (858) 748-2101 to learn more.
Replacing crowns and veneers
Crowns and veneers are a long-lasting treatment for damaged teeth. But in time, patients need a replacement. Older crowns may break or fall out without warning. Crowns and veneers may also suffer damage after an accident. If a dental appliance fails, patients should seek care right away. Delaying treatment may lead to dental problems down the line.
Some dental providers offer same-day crowns and veneers. These offices feature an in-house dental lab or three-dimensional services. The dentist can measure, develop, and fit a crown within a short period. Patients can receive their replacement during a single visit. Same-day crowns and veneers allow patients to avoid painful or inconvenient treatment delays.

Same day options for replacing missing teeth
Tooth replacement options take weeks to months to complete, depending on which procedure a patient undergoes. For many people, it is unacceptable to have to wait months to be able to chew, smile, talk, and socialize comfortably once again. Fortunately, same day dentistry also includes Same Day implants.
Traditionally, the implant process is lengthy and requires multiple steps. However, with Same Day implants, the dentist skips the wound healing and osseointegration processes and places the implant on the same day after extracting the decayed tooth. This eliminates months of waiting and the discomfort that comes with it.

Same-day teeth whitening
Take-home whitening products may not deliver results for several weeks. Since these products are for home use, they contain a lower concentration of whitening agents. In-office teeth whitening treatments utilize higher doses of whitening agents. Same-day whitening procedures can erase stains within an hour.
In-office whitening often uses a laser or curing light. These light sources activate a peroxide gel to remove even stubborn stains. During an in-office whitening procedure, dentists can also apply a fluoride treatment. This procedure can help patients avoid discomfort or sensitivity.

Dental bonding is a popular and conservative alternative to dental veneers and other procedures designed to enhance a smile. Dental bonding uses a tooth-colored composite resin material to conceal imperfections in teeth.
The bonding resin serves as a protective coating for the teeth, safeguarding them against future damage. Due to its conservative nature, dental bonding is something most dentists can perform in the office on the same day. Unlike some treatments, bonding does not necessitate prosthetics or the help of a lab.

Candidacy for same day dentistry
Patients should note that not everyone is an ideal candidate for same day dentistry. Many of the procedures that can be performed in one appointment rely on a foundation of good health. Given this information, patients should remain realistic about what their dentists can and cannot do in a single appointment.
If a patient has less than stellar oral health, the dentist may need to prep the mouth for subsequent procedures or refer a patient to a specialist. For instance, if a person who is missing teeth also has gum disease, the dentist will need to treat the gum issues (that likely caused the tooth loss) before proceeding with the restoration process.

Frequently asked questions about same day dentistry
Sometimes, dentists can provide treatment during a single office visit. Dentists use advanced techniques and modern technology to shorten treatment time. Same-day dentistry may help patients reduce the time spent in a dentist's chair. It can also help patients control costs and manage their budgets.
Same-day dentistry and emergency dentistry are not the same things. Many patients plan their same-day procedure weeks in advance. Dentists may also prepare for a same-day procedure before the patient arrives. Although these treatments are completed within a single visit, they may require some prep work. During a dental emergency, patients develop problems without warning. Emergency dentists can help solve the problem and create a treatment plan. Treatment may involve follow-up visits or multiple procedures.
Dentists can sometimes fix or replace a crown during a single visit. They may also perform dental bonding, place veneers, or insert implants. Some dental practices offer same-day tooth whitening, too. Call our office to find out more about same-day procedures.
Sometimes the dental team may decide that a patient does not qualify for same-day dentistry. The patient may need to visit the office several times to complete treatment. Keep in mind that the dental team puts patient safety first. Rushed procedures may put the patient's oral health at risk, so our team may perform treatment in stages to avoid complications.
After a same-day procedure, the dental team may ask the patient to return for a follow-up visit. During this visit, the dentist assesses the patient's results. The dental team also asks the patient about their symptoms and comfort level. Our team ensures that patients are satisfied with their results.
