How SmileShare works
SmileShare uses clear, lightweight aligners made of medical-grade thermoformed material. Each aligner slips securely over teeth and applies gentle, steady pressure to teeth to move them into the correct position. According to WebMD, new aligners will be necessary to replace the old ones every six to 10 weeks. This allows the aligners to accommodate the changing positions of teeth as they shift into the proper alignment.

Benefits of SmileShare
The primary benefit of this treatment is that it is extremely discreet. Unlike traditional braces that use visible metal brackets, SmileShare aligners are clear, making them nearly invisible. It is also possible to remove these aligners for short periods. That means the patient can remove them for important events such as sporting events, photos, dates, meetings, and presentations.
The fact that they are removable makes maintaining good dental hygiene simple. SmileShare clear aligners are easy to care for because patients can brush and rinse them as part of their regular daily hygiene routine. As an added benefit, patients receive a "Patient Kit," including a storage case with an internal mirror, instructions, and emery board for smoothing aligner edges if needed.

Differences between regular aligners and SmileShare
Many aligner brands are available, but over-the-counter devices are often ineffective and uncomfortable. In contrast, SmileShare devices require a prescription from a certified orthodontist, complying with the new regulations set in place by the FDA at the request of the American Dental Association. Regular aligners often consist of standard plastic or acrylic, but SmileShare appliances consist of medical-grade material to enhance durability. The amount of pressure from the devices allows this treatment solution to move teeth more quickly than other aligners can.

Benefits of SmileShare
There are many reasons patients choose SmileShare. Professionals may recommend this treatment when appropriate as a subtle way for adult and teen patients to address orthodontic issues. A few benefits of this treatment option may include:
Discreet: One of the main reasons that patients choose SmileShare is the aligners are almost invisible when in place. This makes the treatment discreet in comparison to other options.
Effective: SmileShare works well to improve tooth alignment and address minor crowding problems. The length of treatment is often between 18 months and two years. This can be less time than the average for traditional braces, which can take one to three years, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Removable: The aligners are removable. This means eating habits and oral health care routines do not have to change.
Self-Esteem Boosting: Patients often feel uncomfortable about having misaligned teeth, crowding, or other dental malocclusions. Addressing these issues can help patients feel more confident about their smiles. For many, this treatment can have a dramatic life impact.

Frequently asked questions
The severity of the patient's misalignment or malocclusion determines how long it takes teeth to shift into their proper positions. Most patients achieve their desired results in less than two years. Some adults who wore braces as a child and need a minor adjustment may see results in as little as 10 weeks.
Because aligners are designed to shift teeth, patients should expect to experience minor discomfort for a few days after receiving new aligners. This discomfort should decrease as teeth adjust to the new positioning. Patients may take over-the-counter medications such as Aleve®, Motrin®, or Tylenol® to relieve minor pain.
SmileShare™ aligners should be rinsed with cold water when removed. They are easy to clean with soap and water each night. Patients should always brush their teeth before replacing aligners to keep them clean.
These aligners are discreet and effective. They also move teeth more quickly than traditional braces do. Aligners are removable, making it easy for patients to brush their teeth and floss effectively.
Patients with minor teeth misalignment are good candidates for this treatment. It works well for teens and adults. Patients with severe malocclusions may be advised to seek an alternative treatment.
Most aligners are made from a clear plastic or acrylic resin. SmileShare devices consist of thermoformed material. This makes them more durable than other aligners.
